Summary:
The book starts with 16 year old Beatrice in her home in abnegation in a futuristic Chicago, prepares for her aptitude test. For her test, a woman named Tori tells her that her tests where inconclusive or "Divergent." Beatrice was then sent to her choosing ceremony. When it was her brother Caleb's turn he decided to pick Erudite, a rival faction who specialize in being extremely intellectual. Beatrice decides, at the last second, to pick dauntless, another faction who specialize in bravery. she is later sent to run after and then jump onto a moving train, jump off the train onto the roof of a building freefall through a hole in the roof and train to pass initiation. On the first day of training she made three friends who were "faction transfers", the gentle giant Al, the brute Will, and the talkative Christina .On the first stage of initiation she had to fight, and then lost too, a fellow initiate named Peter. Her next fight is against one of peter's underlings named Molly. Beatrice, now Tris, win's against Molly with a jab to the nose. Then during knife throwing training, a man named Four is told by Eric, one of the leaders of dauntless, to throw knives near her to see if she flinches, if she does she has to leave dauntless. After surviving the knife challenge, she watches her friend Christina lose her match by forfeit and has to hang off the side of a bridge in the Pit, the main training grounds for the dauntless. Her friend barely survives but manages to climb back on the bridge. The next stage of training involved the dauntless-born and the faction transfers to battle in an all-out paintball, capture-the-flag war. during the pretend battle, tris and four climb a ferris wheel to find the other teams flag and while she's climbing she learns that four has a fear of heights...
Now i'd tell you the rest of the story but that would be a HUGE spoiler.
One thing I liked: about the book was all the action that was in the book and when the dauntless have a paintball/ capture the flag war.
one thing: that I disliked about the book was certain parts were EXTREMELY slow parts that lost my attention.
