Divergent Summary

Divergent is the first book of the trilogy by Veronica Roth.
The book starts off in the upstairs hallway where Beatrice's mom is cutting her hair. The time comes when every sixteen year old has to choose. First comes the aptitude tests where someone gives you a serum and you have to make some choices. Then comes Choosing Day.... the day where you choose your new faction, Amity, Abnegation, Candor, Dauntless and Erudite. Beatrice is in Abnegation and she chooses Dauntless but during the aptitude tests she finds out that she is Divergent!!!! Divergent is when you have the traits of more than one faction. Dauntless is the bravest of the factions and during the initiation some of the transfers from other factions will be cut and become factionless. Being factionless means that you don't have a faction to live in so therefore, you are homeless. Beatrice soon changes her name to Tris and becomes a new person in her new faction. That's all I'm going to say because I don't want to spoil it for you!

My favorite thing in the book is the Dauntless compound (where the Dauntless live!) It has a roaring river and a very large pit leading into the river! It is made up of mostly rock and metal with few dormitories and a training centre. There is a cafeteria and party room for funerals, parties etc.

I would take out some of the romance and put in a little more action. I would do that because I'm not a very big fan of kissing and all that mushy stuff. Now the fighting and the shooting, now that's what I'm talking about! The book has lots of action and romance so if you're into that then this book is good for you!
