Airborn by Bennet Wilson

Plot summary:
What most people on the airship Aurora thought would be a pleasure cruise, turned into a nightmare. The nightmare begins when the luxurious Aurora is attacked by the dreaded pirate Vikram Szprirglas (main antagonist) and his crew. After this traumatic experience the Aurora is forced to crash land on a seemingly uninhabited island where our main protagonist Matt Cruse and his very curious love interest Ms. Kate de Vries discover a new animal. They are suddenly whipped up into a dangerous situation when they are taken in by the pirates who raided their ship. Matt and Kate are forced to lie to save their lives and the people aboard the wrecked Aurora. When they are caught sneaking out, our protagonists Matt and Kate are ordered by Vikram to be put to death. With Matt’s extensive knowledge on airships they escape the ruthless clutches of the pirates.  They are then forced to fight and outwit the pirates to escape the island alive.

Something I liked:
Something I liked about this book was the fascinating setting the book had. It was set in Victorian times (1837-1901) but with Zeppelin airships (they weren’t used commercially till 1910). Also the idea of the airship pirates was very captivating. I also like how this book was a fairly easy read giving it a wide range of audience.

Something I disliked:
Something I disliked and would change about this book was the beginning of the book. I disliked the beginning of the book because they stretch out what could be 2 chapters into 7 chapters. It was very slow paced and actionless at the beginning which drew away from the books ability to hook the reader. Thankfully, it quickly sped up leaving you on the edge of your seat for the rest of the book.

Favorite character:
My favorite character in Airborn was Vikram Szpriglas. The reason I liked his character was because his job was very intriguing (he was the pirate captain). He also had a double life that he hid from his son which made him all the more interesting. Unfortunately, in the book we don’t learn much else about his life at home or his past as we do with the other characters.
