This book is about a young boy named, August Pullman, who also goes by the name "Auggie". August was born with a previously unknown type of mandibulofacial dysostosis caused by an autosomal recessive mutation in the TCOF1 gene. Basically it is a mutant gene causing facial deformities. August keeps to himself because people judge him based on his facial deformities. As a child he had many surgeries, so he did not attend public school. But now that August is older he and his parents decided to have him attend middle school (grade five) at Beecher Prep for the first time. Even though August is just an ordinary boy with an extraordinary face, it is hard for him to make friends. But once everyone that is part of August's life gets to know him, they find out that it doesn't matter what someone looks like on the outside. What really matters is what kind of person he is on the inside.
I really liked this book because it does a great job of teaching why you should not judge a book by its cover. I also really liked this book because it gives you the perspectives of many different characters in the book. It helps you to experience real life situations of the characters and feel their emotions.
If I would change anything I think I would add to the story line to make it more complex, more interesting and add more suspense or action.
